Intel Doubles the Capacity of Thunderbolt-Interface
Intel is at the American National Association of
Broadcasters (NAB 2013), held in Las Vegas (Nevada, USA), spoke about the
development of technology Thunderbolt.
Falcon Ridge Bandwidth |
Thunderbolt system provides the ability to connect to
multiple PC peripherals through a single high-speed line. The Bandwidth
connection of the current version is up to 10 Gbit / seconds, which is twice
higher than that of the interface USB 3.0. Thunderbolt ports are equipped with
mostly Apple computers and some devices from other manufacturers - for example,
external drives.
At NAB 2013 was shown Thunderbolt-controller DSL4510/4410,
which provides support for DisplayPort 1.2 and improved power management.
Furthermore, the product can reduce the cost of implementing Thunderbolt in the
end devices.
Intel also demonstrated a prototype of the next-generation
Thunderbolt controllers, codenamed “Falcon Ridge”. It will provide capacity of
up to 20 Gbit / seconds, which is twice as high compared to the current version
of the Thunderbolt.
Pilot production of controllers for Falcon Ridge is scheduled to
begin by the end of the year, and a mass production is scheduled in 2014.
